The world Environmental day (WED) 2022 in collaboration with National Environmental standards and regulations Enforcement Agency (NASEA) with the theme “ONLY ONE EARTH” was hosted by our own Nobel citadel of learning on the 6th of June 2022. With magnificent array of professionals from various fields of Academic background including LAW, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing, Architecture, and Environmentalist amongst others.
The programme is usually an annual programme observed across the globe. The host country for this year’s conspicuous occasion is Sweden.
Also, it was recorded that the following dignitaries were present at the event. prof Elisabeta smaranda Olarinde F clard(Vice chancellor Abuad university), prof Damilola Olawuyi SAN (Director OGEES Instutute ABUAD), Barr Oluwaseyi Ebenezer TGed foundation , Prof Bayo Oluduro, Professor of Law Adekunle Ajasin University, Dr Mrs Ade ojo Comfort Olubunmi, Managing director waste masters integrated services Nig ltd, Mrs Torani Abosede (NESREA state coordinator Ekiti state field office), Prof Wole Adebayo (Dept of Geography and planning science EKSU) Dr Oluwaseyi A AKpor( Faculty of Nursing sciences ABUAD) Dr SIkiru Oluoyo( Executive director, Green Global Environmental Network), representatives from ministry of Health, ministry of Environment amidst others.
Prof Bayo Oluduro who was the keynote lecturer mentioned in his speech that Earth is the only living hope for all human beings, therefore our actions and inactions as human must not harm the environment. He emphasized that all of us should be conscious of the fact that there can be no alternative planet to reside in except this present one so we should treat our environment carefully because whatever you give to your environment comes back to you.
More so, Dr mrs Ade-Ojo Comfort who was the second key note lecturer defined waste as byproducts of human existence and developmental activities; this developmental activities increases the complexities of waste generation. She also mentioned that as you grow, the nature of your waste also grows. She concluded by giving diverse ways to proper waste management which includes social services, polluter pays, sustainable practices, modern waste management techniques.
The Plenary session of the progarmme was moderated by Barr Oluwaseryi Ebenezer and each of the Panelist including Prof Wole Adebayo, Dr Oluwaseyi Akpor, Mrs Toroni Abosede and Dr Sikiru Olowoyo expatiated on what environment is all about and why we have a lot of activities on the environment. It was mentioned that 90% of our food, medicine, clothing, are from the ecosystem and that for you to be healthy, you need to live in a healthy environment because a health environment will give birth to healthy people.
Finally, it was established that we as humans should cultivate the habit of setting our environmental priorities right. We must be good environmental stewards and for us to make the earth safe, we must make use of the 3R waste management techniques, Rduce, Reuse and Recycle.
