Fabotas College of Health Sciences and Technology  was given approval to commence the training of MLS in November 2016. Medical laboratory technician is a 3year course leading to an award of certificate by the professional regulatory body: Medical Laboratory Science Council (MLSCM).

The department has two cadres of academic staff. The core lecturers (Medical Laboratory Scientist) and support staff including technicians that handle basic medical sciences.

Medical laboratory technician department is one of the most referred department of the college. The importance of medical laboratory personnels cannot be overemphasized in medical practice/ health sector as medical laboratory sciences/technology is the bedrock of modern medicine.

Gone are the days when physicians initiate treatment based on clinical diagnosis alone, laboratory diagnosis saves time and resources as it is very precise and accurate, thereby improving medical services worldwide. Blood transfusion science/procedure have helped in saving lives. The training of students is therefore highly encouraged.

Students of this department are taken through the theoretical and the practical aspects of the practice/profession (at the middle level) adhering strictly to the council curriculum within and outside the college premises as they usually spend some time at designated hospitals in laboratory postings.

It is our strong belief that the products of this department will not only be useful to themselves alone but also to the community at large.


The objectives of the department are in line with the main objectives of the college.

The main objectives of the college are to offer training programmes in various branches of Health Sciences and Technology through appropriate instruction and exposure of its members to a standard teaching and learning condition under a conducive learning environment in order to produce qualified Health Professionals and sub-Professionals who will render Health Services in line with global health concept of Public health and Environmental safety for the benefit of the people.


Students who successfully complete this programme should be able to:

  1. Seek employment in a clinical laboratory setting with the ability to perform routine laboratory procedures.
  2. Recognize normal and abnormal test results and take necessary action with critical values.
  3. Perform and interpret basic quality control procedures.
  4. Operate and perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment
  5. Recognize and adhere to safety policies and practices
  6. Demonstrate sound work ethics interactions with patient’s co-workers and other personnel.
